The X-ray and radio jets of quasars on kiloparsec scales

چکیده
We have observed five quasars (0827+243, 0923+392, 1222+216, 1317+520, and 2209+080) with Chandra at 0.2-8 keV and with the VLA at 5 and 15 GHz. The X-ray emission is detected from all the radio jets except for 0923+392, whose double radio jet only extends out to the edge of the X-ray PSF. We model the spectral energy distribution of the jet features assuming that the X-ray emission originates via inverse Compton scattering off the cosmic microwave background by relativistic electrons. For two sources (0827+243 and 1222+216) proper motion on parsec scales is consistent with the Doppler factors derived from the model, which implies that no deceleration occurs between parsec and kiloparsec jets.

A survey of extended radio jets in AGN with Chandra and HST: First Results
We present the first results from an X-ray and optical survey of a sample of AGN radio jets with Chandra and HST. We focus here on the first six sources observed at X-rays, in four of which a bright X-ray jet was detected for the first time. In three out of four cases optical emission from the jet is also detected in our HST images. We compare the X-ray morphology with the radio as derived from...
متن کاملRelativistic and slowing down : the flow in the hotspots of powerful radio galaxies and quasars
Pairs of radio emitting jets with lengths up to several hundred kiloparsecs emanate from the central region (the ‘core’) of radio loud active galaxies. In the most powerful of them, these jets terminate in the ‘hotspots’, compact high brightness regions, where the jet flow collides with the intergalactic medium (IGM). Although it has long been established that in their inner (∼parsec) regions t...

A newly identified kiloparsec-scale X-ray jet in the high-redshift z=3.89 quasar 1745+624 is studied with multi-frequency Very Large Array, Hubble Space Telescope, and Chandra X-ray imaging data. This is only the third large-scale X-ray jet beyond z > 3 known and is further distinguished as being the most luminous relativistic jet observed at any redshift, exceeding 10 erg/s in both the radio a...

The Chandra X-ray Observatory has proven to be a vital tool for studying high-energy emission processes in jets associated with active galactic nuclei (AGNs). We have compiled a sample of 27 AGNs selected from the radio flux-limited MOJAVE (Monitoring of Jets in AGNs with VLBA Experiments) sample of highly relativistically beamed jets to look for correlations between X-ray and radio emission on...
